How to choose restaurant management software

Restaurant software connects the dining room, the kitchen and the cashier. The aim is fewer mistakes with orders and bills, and a clear view of what each dish really earns.
Front of house
- Table management and order taking on a phone, tablet or counter screen.
- Dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders handled in one flow.
- Split bills, discounts and service charge handled clearly.
- Fast, clear receipts.
Kitchen
- Orders sent straight to the kitchen printer or screen, with modifiers such as no onion, extra spicy.
- Order status, so waiters know when food is ready.
Back office
- Menu and price management, with items you can switch off when they run out.
- Recipes and ingredient stock, so sales reduce stock automatically.
- Cost per dish and margin, so you know which items make money.
- Daily sales, voids and discounts reports, and staff roles that limit who can void or discount.
Questions to ask
- Does it keep working if the internet drops during dinner?
- Which printers and devices does it support?
- Can it handle more than one outlet?
- What support do we get on weekends and evenings, when we are busiest?
